I’ve been living in Germany for almost eight years, and my business was born out of a transformative period in my life. After struggling with depression and feeling truly unhappy for a long time, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery with the help of a coach. Over two years, I discovered facets of myself I never knew existed. This journey opened me up to life and new experiences, which I continue to explore.
Starting Mayalavana ArtStudio has been a crucial part of this exploration. This website is not just an online shop; it’s a personal space where I push boundaries, experiment with new methods and materials, and create unique home decor items. My background as a frontend developer has been invaluable, allowing me to design and build this website from scratch, showcasing my inner style and creativity.
At Mayalavana ArtStudio, I am committed to taking care of the environment. By choosing to buy handmade decor from a small business like mine, you are helping to protect our planet. My creations are made from eco-friendly materials that have minimal impact on the environment. Each piece is crafted to order, ensuring there is no wasteful overproduction or reliance on large factories producing mass-market items. While it’s not about completely avoiding home decor from popular stores, reducing our reliance on mass-produced items is a step towards a more sustainable future.
Running this small business as a one-woman show offers a multitude of opportunities to grow and learn, even in areas as challenging as taxes and other administrative tasks. Despite the hurdles, the satisfaction and pride I feel knowing that my home decorations are loved and cherished in homes around the world are immense. Each piece is crafted with love and care, and it fills me with joy to know they are surrounded by beautiful souls who appreciate my work.
